10 May Blue Monday

Monday mornings are not my favourite days to go to the office.  It’s not that I don’t enjoy the work, but after a weekend enjoying the sunshine, spending the day in front of a computer screen is unfulfilling.  Thankfully, this Monday, within an hour of starting work, my expectations for the day are suddenly changed with a call to go out on the field and assist at an activity.  Hallelujah!  It’s time to down tools, grab my shorts and sun cream and get on my bike.

I join the group in San Rafael as they are excitedly packing equipment into the back of the Land Rovers for the drive to Cala Xarraca.  A short trek and we are setting up for a day’s adventure in one of Ibiza’s best secluded calas (beaches).

We set up the picnic, tie the ropes for getting out, clear the area of any jelly fish, and we are down to business.  Ismael gives an introduction to cliff diving and it’s time to take the leap.  Most of my time is spent in the water helping people climb out.  After a couple of hours it’s time to indulge in the picnic and some cold drinks.  The atmosphere is great as everyone lounging about eating and drinking on the rocks with live guitar and singing from Giulia and Chiara.

After a day of physical exertion and adrenaline, I’m going home tired but with a feeling of satisfaction you don’t get sitting in an office.
